After the start of a full-scale war in Ukraine, the leading enterprises of the recycling market changed.

About this informs open data platform Opendatabot.

Thus, the invasion and occupation of part of the territories led to the loss of the positions of two giant companies – “MMK named after Ilyich” and “Azovstal”, which belonged to Rinat Akhmetov’s SCM group. In 2021, it was Ilyich’s MMK that took first place in the top. Together, these businesses earned nearly half of the top 10’s fortunes in 2021.

Another company that took the 5th place in the 2021 rating – “Dniprovsky Metkombinat” (ISD Taruta-Mkrtchan) – went bankrupt in the first year of the full-scale invasion.

At the same time, other companies of Rinat Akhmetov, as well as those of Poroshenko Jr., Viktor Pinchuk, and Igor Kolomoiskyi, made it to the top.

Thus, three companies of Rinat Akhmetov’s SCM group entered the top 10 at once: “Zaporizhstal”, which became the leader in 2022, even though its revenue almost halved to UAH 46.92 billion. Also in the rating is “Kamet-Stal”, which in the first year of the full-scale war almost doubled its income to UAH 37.85 billion. Another company – “Zaporizhkoks” – also increased its income by 22% and earned UAH 15.81 billion.

Akhmetov’s company accounts for 42% of the total revenue of the top 10 enterprises in the field.

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih (owned by a foreign investor) remained in second place in the rating, despite the fact that the company’s revenue decreased the most – by as much as 60%, to UAH 43.82 billion.

The rating of the best businesses in the processing industry also included two companies of Viktor Pinchuk: “Interpipe Niko Tube”, whose revenue in 2022 increased by 11% and amounted to UAH 16.49 billion, and “Dniprostal”, whose revenue decreased by a quarter and amounted to UAH 10.85 billion. Together, Pinchuk’s enterprises account for 11% of the total income of the top 10.

The business of the “Privat” group of Ihor Kolomoiskyi also made it to the top 10 – it is about the “Nikopol ferroalloy plant”. In the first year of the full-scale invasion, the plant in Nikopol lost half of its income and, with earnings of UAH 11.39 billion, dropped three points in the rating.

In contrast to metallurgists, food industry companies increased their fortunes in the first year of the full-scale war. For example, “Katerynopil Elevator”, which belongs to Yuri Kosyuk’s MHP group, increased its income by 11%.

Oleksiy Poroshenko’s company “Roshen” (Ukrprominvest group) – by 4%. Having increased its income by 2%, the company “Delta Wilmar Ukraine” also entered the rating.

At the same time, in general, the combined income of the top 10 companies in the processing industry decreased by almost one and a half times during the first year of the full-scale war. Market leaders – metallurgical and food companies – earned 240.46 billion.

The top 10 companies of the processing industry earned UAH 240.46 billion in 2022. This is 1.4 times less compared to the combined income of these companies in 2021 – UAH 355.55 billion.

The first full-scale year changed not only the income, but also the composition of the top 10 companies of the processing industry: the list included 7 companies of the metallurgical complex and 3 companies of the food industry. For comparison, in 2021, the leader rating included 8 metallurgical companies and 2 food industry companies with a total revenue of UAH 556.37 billion.
