The Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, Muhammed Shtaye, addressed the head of the Palestinian National Administration, Mahmoud Abbas, with a resignation letter. Together with him, his government must resign. Presumably, such a step is caused by the fact that the politicians of the West Bank of the Jordan River could not reach a consensus regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip.
Abbas accepted Shtaye’s resignation. He will continue to serve as prime minister until a new government is formed.
Shtaye said that he decided to resign “due to the worsening of the situation in the West Bank and Jerusalem, the genocide and famine in the Gaza Strip,” Al-Jazeera quoted the ex-premier as saying. He added that the new reality in Gaza will require new agreements and a new consensus “between Palestinians and Palestinians.”
World media note that the resignation of the prime minister of the Palestinian Authority and his government took place against the background of growing pressure from the United States and the international community on the Palestinian National Administration. The Palestinian Authority and the Fatah movement, headed by Mahmoud Abbas, expect that they will take over the settlement of the situation in the Gaza Strip after Israel’s military operation against the radical group Hamas, recognized as a terrorist in the United States and the European Union, ends there. At the same time, support for Fatah and the Abbas administration in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank is low.

According to the Palestinian side, more than 25 thousand residents of Gaza have died since October.
