Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the rank of major general to State Duma deputy Adam Delymkhanov. Delymkhanov’s relative, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, reported this on the Telegram channel. Putin’s decree has not been published.
Delymkhanov is Ramzan Kadyrov’s fourth cousin on his mother’s side and one of his closest associates, Kavkaz.Realii reminds. In the late 1990s, he was the driver of Chechen field commander Salman Raduev, convicted by the Russian authorities of terrorism. In 1999, on the eve of the invasion of Russian troops into Chechnya, he and his brothers went over to the side of Akhmat Kadyrov, the father of the current leader of the republic.
Now the three Delimkhanov brothers became generals. In addition, all of them were awarded the highest Russian award, the title of Hero of Russia. Adam Delymkhanov received the title in April 2022, after the capture of Ukrainian Mariupol by Russian troops. He appeared on video recordings of meetings about the storming of the city, a number of Russian sources claimed that the deputy did not directly participate in the hostilities.
Since 2014, Delymkhanov has been under US sanctions for ties to organized crime. Several high-profile political murders are associated with his name. He was wanted internationally by Interpol on suspicion of involvement in the organization of the murder in the UAE of the commander of the “Vostok” battalion, Hero of Russia Sulim Yamadaev. His brother, also Hero of Russia Ruslan Yamadaev, was considered Kadyrov’s rival and was killed in Moscow.
