Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the introduction of restrictions on leaving Russia for former officials with access to state secrets.
According to the document, the decision on who among them can leave the country and who cannot is made by a specially created Interdepartmental Commission for the Protection of the Homeland. It will also determine the period of the ban on leaving. At the same time, the President of Russia reserved the right to interfere in the commission’s work and change its decisions.
- In March 2023, the joint project of “Nastoyaschego vremy” and Radio Svoboda – “Sistema” – published an investigation, which described the cases of confiscation of foreign passports from Russian officials and employees of state-owned companies. Later, the press secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, confirmed the existence of “stricter rules” for foreign trips that apply to “specific employees”, adding that more attention is being paid to this topic “since the beginning of a special military operation”.
