Ramzan Kadyrov received a medal for his contribution to the development of nuclear physics

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, received a gold medal named after Igor Kurchatov. It is awarded for outstanding services in the development of nuclear physics and nuclear power engineering, it is one of the most significant awards of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The medal was presented to Kadyrov by the president of the National Research Center “Kurchatovsky Institute” Mikhail Kovalchuk during his visit to Grozny. Kovalchuk did not specify exactly what contribution Kadyrov made to the development of nuclear physics and nuclear power engineering. He noted the great successes of the region in the development of science and education.

“It is a great honor for me to receive such a high recognition from a renowned institute,” Kadyrov said in his Facebook post.

According to the local media, Ramzan Kadyrov suggested to the representatives of the “Kurchatov Institute” to open a branch in Chechnya. Before that, the institute signed an agreement on cooperation with the Chechen State University “in the field of science and education”. Prior to this, the same agreement was signed between the NIC and the Dagestan State University. At the same time, Mikhail Kovalchuk, a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, was awarded the title of honorary professor of DSU. There are no reports of any retaliatory gestures addressed to the authorities outside the republic.

The Kurchatov medal is far from Ramzan Kadyrov’s first award. In total, he has more than three dozen orders, medals and titles of honor. Among them, the medal “For military valor” II degree (2000), “For services to the Fatherland” IV and III degrees (2006 and 2021). In 2006, he received the title of Hero of Russia, and in 2020, Putin awarded Kadyrov the title of Major General of the Russian Guard. In addition, he has the honorary titles “Honored worker of physical culture of the Chechen Republic”, “Honored builder of the Chechen Republic” and “Honored human rights defender of Chechnya”.

In February 2023, Kadyrov was the first in the republic to be awarded the title of Hero of the Chechen Republic. This title was established by him himself in October last year. Decrees on awarding are signed by the head of Chechnya, so it turns out that Kadyrov awarded himself.
