Residents of the right-bank part of Kurgan were called to evacuate

The governor of the Kurgan region, Vadym Shumkov, called for the immediate evacuation of residents of the right-bank part of Kurgan, as well as residents of the left bank from garden and summer associations to the dam. The water level in the Tobol River near Kurgan has risen to 685 centimeters, over the past day the water has risen by 1.5 meters.

Shumkov also warned that the evacuation of residents of some territories of Kurgan may soon be difficult due to flooding of roads.

“The volume of water is colossal. All that we see in Kurgan now, when Cheremukhovo is flooded, is only a small part of the volume that approaches the city,” wrote Shumkov.

“In addition to the Tobol’s own waters and rainwater flowing into it, more than 1 billion 300 million cubic meters of water flow from Kazakhstan, which, according to the Federal Agency for Water Management, is twice the volume of discharges in 1994. This is not just a flood, this is a real threat!” , – said Shumkov.

Due to the threat of flooding, a state of emergency was declared in Kurgan on April 8. According to forecasts of the main administration of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 62 settlements may be flooded in the region, potentially almost 19 thousand people may be in the flooded zone. More than seven thousand people were evacuated as a precaution.

Several regions of Siberia also suffered from flooding. In Tomsk, the Communal bridge crossing the Tom River was flooded due to flooding. At the moment, four settlements in the Tomsk district are flooded in the region – Tomsk, Vershinino, Baturino and Chernaya Rechka.

In the Novosibirsk region, on April 15, flooding affected settlements in Iskitim, Karasuk, Toguchy and Suzun districts. In the Altai Krai, the Ministry of Emergencies predicts a second wave of flooding by the end of May.

Flooding continues in several regions of Russia since the beginning of April. Residents of the Orenburg region suffered the most – more than 16,500 people were evacuated here, including more than 4,600 children. On April 13, the flood in Orenburg reached its maximum peak – on that day, more than 2.9 thousand residential houses and 4.9 thousand dachas were flooded in the city.
