Reuters: 200 million email addresses of users could have been stolen from Twitter

Hackers have stolen the email addresses of more than 200 million Twitter users and posted them on the online forum. This was reported by the Reuters agency. The agency cites Alon Gal, co-founder of the Israeli cybersecurity monitoring company Hudson Rock, who called the situation one of the largest data leaks he’s aware of. Gal first published a report of the hack on December 24, but Twitter has not yet commented on it or responded to inquiries about the breach. However, the Reuters agency emphasizes that it could not independently verify whether the data on this forum is reliable and whether it comes from Twitter. Also, the statements about the scope of the attackers’ actions differed at first: earlier it was said that the hackers had stolen 400 million email addresses and phone numbers. In addition, the agency notes that although the data was made public only now, the breach could have occurred as early as 2021, before Elon Musk became the owner of the company.
