Rogozin proposed to hit Ukraine with a space missile

The German tabloid BILD claims that the former head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, suggested striking Ukraine with a space launch vehicle.
The publication writes that at the disposal of the editors there was a recording of Rogozin’s conversations with Dmytro Baranov, the general director of the Progress Rocket and Space Center, in which they discussed the possibility of modifying the launch vehicle to strike Ukraine and the possible technical difficulties from January 2023.
In particular, as noted by BILD, Rogozin and Baranov said that upon entering the atmosphere, the warhead would overheat, and also that the deflection of the rocket could be 50–100 kilometers.
Rogozin asks how long it will take to modify the rockets in order, in his words, to tell about it to the person who will then meet with the “great and terrible”. According to BILD, the plan was presented to Russian President Vladimir Putin on January 16, but it is not known how he reacted.
The anonymous Telegram channel “PMK-OGPU” published an audio recording of the conversations between Rogozin and Baranov, as it is claimed. The content of the record corresponds to the description of BILD.
- Rogozin headed “Roscosmos” from 2018 to 2022, before that he was the deputy prime minister of the government. During his work, the state corporation lost a significant part of the market for commercial launches into space, and ceased to be a monopoly in the field of delivering cosmonauts into orbit. On July 15, 2022, Rogozin was removed from the post of head of Roscosmos.
- Rogozin is a supporter of the war against Ukraine. According to Rogozin, the last year he was at the front as the head of the volunteer organization “Tsarskie Volki”. Last winter, he was wounded in the Donetsk region – the restaurant where he was located came under fire.
- In September, Rogozin was appointed to the Council of the Federation of Russia as a representative of the Zaporozhye region, which Moscow declared annexed to Russia.
