Roskomnadzor has defined the criteria for defining “LGBT propaganda”, which Vladimir Putin previously banned legislatively on the territory of Russia. The draft of the order, which was developed by the department, states that information that, in particular, “convinces of the attractiveness of non-traditional sexual relations” and “contributes to changing the negative attitude towards them to a positive one”, “creates a distorted view of the social equivalence of traditional and non-traditional sexual relations”, as well as “aimed at the formation of a positive attitude towards the change of a person’s biological sex”.
“Vedomosti” publication also reports that Roskomnadzor has prepared a list of films that refer to “LGBT propaganda”. In particular, it included the winner of the “Oscar”, BAFTA, “Golden Globe” and “Golden Lion” awards, the melodrama “Humpback Mountain” by the Taiwanese director Eng Li, and the winner of the “Oscar” and “Golden Globe” drama by the Italian director Luca Guadagnino “Call me your name”.
- The law, which introduces a complete ban on LGBT propaganda among all ages, was signed by Vladimir Putin on December 5, 2022. After that, Roskomnadzor added more than 200 sites to the register of prohibited information, many bookstores removed from sale products in which non-traditional sexual relations can be found. Among such books are the works of Pulitzer Prize laureate, American writer Michael Cunningham, classic of Japanese literature Haruka Murakami, British actor, writer and playwright Stephen Fry, writer and public figure Eduard Limonov, now deceased. Some video services have started to censor films. So, “Amediateka” cut several episodes from the TV series “Sex in the Big City” and “White Lotus”.
