“Russia 1” TV channel gave the Polish city as Kaliningrad. The TV story shown in the “Vesty” program talked about the success in the economic development of Kaliningrad even in the conditions of Western sanctions. However, local residents recognized the shots of the panorama of the city – this is the Polish city of Elblóg.
The displayed panorama shows a Catholic church and well-furnished houses.
The plot provoked a violent reaction from the residents of Kaliningrad and those who know the city well. “I was stunned, looking at the video – where, I think, they hid it when I was in Kaliningrad?” – writes the user. “How beautiful Kaliningrad has become under Vladimir Vladimirovich!” – ironizes the other one. “And I was immediately offended. Why Elblong, and not Gdańsk. And we could also show Cologne,” suggests the third. “I would like to show New York right away, so that it is not trivial!” – demands the fourth.
- It is not the first time Russian official mass media use unreliable facts in their stories. In 2016, Channel One correspondent Ivan Blagoi spread a fake story about a 13-year-old “girl Lisa” from Russia, who was allegedly abused by Muslim migrants for two days in Germany, although the girl was unharmed.
- At the end of 2022, the Russian state TV channel RT released a video about how, due to the alleged poverty and hunger in Europe, after the refusal of Russian gas, Europeans are forced to eat their pets. Allegedly, a German video about how the inhabitants of Europe are suffering because of the fact that NATO countries provide assistance to Ukraine also turned out to be filmed in Russia – presumably also by the RT channel.
