The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia has declared the Wild Salmon Center, an American organization for the protection of salmon, undesirable.

According to the department, the company’s activities served as a “cover” for projects aimed at “straining Russia’s economic development.”

Among such projects, the Prosecutor General’s Office notes “allegedly useful” proposals for the creation of specially protected natural territories in the Far East. The organization sought to restrict fishing and oil and gas production there, writes the Prosecutor General’s Office.

In addition, the company provided financial support to Sakhalin Environmental Watch, which the Russian authorities re-included in the register of foreign agents at the end of 2022.

Thus, the organization for the protection of salmon, “formally advocating for the protection of nature”, interferes in the internal affairs of Russia, concludes the Prosecutor General’s Office.

  • Earlier, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia recognized other environmental organizations as undesirable: the largest World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Greenpeace, as well as The Altai Project.
