Russia has failed to comply with more than 2,000 ECtHR decisions

On Thursday, the Council of Europe published an annual report on the implementation of decisions of the European Court of Human Rights by the member countries of this organization.
In March last year, Russia was expelled from the Council of Europe due to its aggression against Ukraine. On September 16, it officially ceased to be a party to the European Convention on Human Rights. However, the Council of Europe emphasizes that it is obliged to implement the decisions of the ECHR issued in cases accepted by the court for consideration by September 16, 2022. However, in March of last year, Moscow stopped both implementing the decisions of the ECHR and reporting on their implementation.
As noted by the Council of Europe, by the end of last year, more than 6,000 ECtHR decisions were expected to be implemented, 2,352 of them, that is, about 40%, fell on Russia. The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which monitors the execution of court decisions, received 413 new ECtHR decisions over the past hour, of which only three were implemented.
According to the decision of the ECHR, Russia is expected to pay compensation in 1,102 cases, and the total amount of unpaid compensation by the Russian authorities exceeds 2 billion euros, of which more than 1.8 billion are in compensation in the Yukos case and 10 million in the Georgia vs. Russia case .
