Andriy Kobolev, the former chairman of the board of NJSC “Naftogaz”, who is currently in Ukraine under investigation, advises the authorities of Moldova on energy issues, but is not an adviser to President Maia Sandu, as he stated.

This was reported to “European Truth” by the administration of the President of Moldova.

It was noted there that Kobolev, on the recommendation of the European Commission, “provided free consultations to the authorities of Chisinau during the energy crisis of 2021-2022”, when no criminal case was initiated against him.

“Currently, Kobolev continues to advise the Ministry of Energy of Moldova regarding the audit of the debt of Moldovagaz, based on his experience in the legal victory of Naftogaz over the Russian giant Gazprom in the Stockholm Arbitration Court, thanks to which Ukraine reimbursed 4.6 billion US dollars,” Sandu’s administration reported. .

International auditors did not find Moldova’s debt to Gazprom

They emphasized that Kobolev is not an official adviser to the President of Moldova.

As “Economichna Pravda” reported, at the session of the High Anti-Corruption Court, which was considering the extension of Kobolev’s preventive measure, Kobolev said that he has become an adviser to Maia Sandu and is helping Moldova “to complete the process of auditing debts to Gazprom.”

Andriy Kobolev headed Naftogaz from 2014 to 2021. In February 2022, he was suspected of giving himself a bonus of 229.25 million hryvnias for the victory over Russia’s Gazprom in the Stockholm arbitration.

In January 2023, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine informed the ex-head of Naftogaz about the suspicion of abuse of office.
