Scientist Golubkin was sentenced to 12 years in prison in the case of treason

The Moscow City Court sentenced 71-year-old scientist Valery Golubkin to 12 years in a penal colony. He was found guilty of treason. This was reported by the correspondent of “Mediazona” from the courtroom.

Judge Vitaly Belytsky handed down the sentence. The prosecution requested that the scientist be given exactly such a sentence. According to the investigation, Golubkin, a professor at MIPT and an employee of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI), passed reports containing state secrets to scientists from the Netherlands.

We are talking about the international project to create a hypersonic passenger aircraft on hydrogen fuel HEXAFLY-INT. Anatoly Gubanov, Golubkin’s boss, was arrested earlier in the same case. Foreign specialists participated in the project. As “Pervyy Otdel” emphasizes, all documents were checked three times by experts before sending them – they did not find any false positives in the reports. Golubkin disagreed with the accusation, claiming that his actions did not constitute a crime.

• Physicist Valery Golubkin is a specialist in the field of high-speed aerodynamics, the author of more than 130 scientific papers and the laureate of several state prizes and awards. He was arrested in April 2021.
• Since the beginning of 2023, at least 21 criminal cases have been opened in Russia under the article of treason. This is five times more than in the same period last year. For the whole of 2022, 22 criminal cases of state treason were initiated. Cases are often raised against scientists whose work can be used in the defense industry.
