Iran warned Russia about the possibility of a large-scale “terrorist operation” on Russian territory before the attack on the Crocus City Hall concert hall near Moscow on March 22, which became one of the largest terrorist attacks in recent Russian history. This is reported by the Reuters agency with reference to three sources.
“A few days before the attack, Tehran gave Moscow information about a possible major terrorist attack in Russia. The information was obtained as a result of interrogations of detainees suspected of organizing explosions in Iran,” said one of the interlocutors of the agency.
The largest recent terrorist attack took place in Iran on January 3, its victims were dozens of participants in the mourning ceremony on the anniversary of the death of General Qassem Suleimana. Responsibility for the explosion, as well as for the attack on “Crocus City Hall”, was taken by the Afghan branch of the recognized terrorist organization “Islamic State” – “Vilayat Khorasan”.
At the same time, the Russian authorities do not officially comment on the version of IS involvement in the terrorist attack and make statements that Ukraine is involved in it, which Kiev categorically denies. The press secretary of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, said that he did not know anything about possible warnings from Iran.
The United States and its allies warned of possible terrorist attacks in major Russian cities, including at concerts. At the same time, the United States is in hostile relations with Iran. The FSB of Russia admitted that the US had passed on information about the preparation of the attack, but called it “general”, not detailed.
