One of the business tools that helped Ukrainian companies successfully overcome the beginning of a full-scale war, and especially the period from October 2022 to March 2023, is the use of cloud services.

These are solutions that allow you to organize the remote work of employees, as well as secure the business by transferring data and critical IT infrastructure to a virtual environment. This is evidenced by the statistics of the Kyivstar company, which is an official partner of Microsoft in Ukraine.

Kyivstar provides the following data.

1. From the beginning of the full-scale war until August 2023, the consumption of Microsoft Azure cloud services in Ukraine increased almost 7 times. The main peaks of such growth occurred in March-April 2022, when active hostilities began.

And also – for October-March 2023, when Ukrainians and Ukrainian businesses suffered from blackouts due to enemy shelling.

Microsoft Azure is a Microsoft cloud platform that opens up virtually limitless technological possibilities for hosting and processing data in securely protected data centers in more than 60 regions of the world. This allows you to create backup secure data transmission channels in a virtual environment.

2. During the year, namely from August 2022 to August 2023, the number of requests to Kyivstar to connect the cloud product Microsoft Office 365 increased almost threefold.

This is a complete package of tools for office work, which allows you to deploy a remote workplace for employees in the shortest possible time, providing access to work programs and documents from any gadget, only if there is access to the Internet.

In particular, Microsoft Office 365 is available to Ukrainian corporate clients of Kyivstar not only as a separate service, but also as an additional bonus for some corporate mobile tariffs.

“Ukrainian business has shown remarkable resilience since the very beginning of the full-scale war, especially during the blackouts. This was facilitated, in particular, by the availability of innovative technological solutions, the provider of which is Kyivstar,” commented Kostyantyn Vechir, director of business development at Kyivstar’s corporate market, on such data.

– We believe that the use of cloud technologies has become one of the most important solutions that helped businesses successfully prepare for winter and ensure work in unpredictable conditions.”

In addition, cloud products not only made it possible to secure the work of Ukrainian business, but also create new opportunities for development, even in such a difficult situation. After all, the architecture of such solutions allows them to be easily scaled, supplemented with new technological solutions, for example, big data analytics, the speaker adds.

The largest increase* in the use of cloud technologies was observed among the following branches of Ukrainian business:

  • Agriculture, forestry and fisheries – +183%
  • Real estate transactions – +133%
  • Information and telecommunications – +115%
  • Wholesale and retail trade; vehicle repair – +74%
  • Construction – +63%
  • Manufacturing industry – +56%
  • Financial and insurance industry – +55%

*Data are given as of May 2022 – June 2023.

“Financial and insurance industries showed relatively low growth, because they are traditionally more focused on the security of data and infrastructure and used them even before the start of full-scale military operations,” Kostyantyn Vechir comments on the data.

– At the same time, we see a great demand for cloud solutions in such industries as retail, agriculture, and production. This shows the readiness of Ukrainian business for even greater flexibility and transformation for further development in difficult conditions.”
