South Korea imposed sanctions against two companies from the Russian Federation for their ties to North Korea

South Korea imposed sanctions against two Russian companies and two courts for military cooperation with North Korea, which is prohibited by the UN Security Council. This was reported by the “Ryonhap” agency with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country.

Intellect and Sodeystvie and their managers – Sergey Kozlov and Fyodor Panfilov – were sanctioned. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea, the companies participated in financing the nuclear and missile development of the DPRK. Companies have attracted North Korean specialists, including in the IT field, to work in Russia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.

The Russian vessels Angara and Lady R were also sanctioned – it is alleged that they carried military cargo between Russia and the DPRK. Earlier, the authorities of both countries denied cooperation in the military sphere.

In March, the UN sanctions monitoring group against the DPRK described in detail the supply of North Korean ammunition to Russia in its report. The report included information provided by different countries. After that, Russia blocked the extension of the group’s mandate.

In February, American investigators, after analyzing hundreds of satellite images of ports and railway stations in the region, found that since August 2023, the DPRK could supply Russia with more than 2.5 million munitions. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine has already recorded the use of North Korean missiles by Russia in the shelling of Ukrainian territories. Seven members of the UN Security Council also accused Russia of violating the ban on military cooperation with the DPRK.
