Swiss officials called Chechnya a safe place in the denial of asylum

The State Secretariat for Migration of Switzerland refused to grant asylum to 40-year-old Chechen Ali Bataev. The official response states that Chechnya is considered a safe and stable place, reports Kavkaz.Realii.
40-year-old Bataev lived in Ukraine and received a residence permit there, but after the Russian invasion in 22 years, he was forced to leave the country. He is married to a citizen of Ukraine and was registered as a refugee from the war, Kavkaz.Realii reported. A year ago, he was detained in Switzerland and has been in a deportation center since September. He is sure that death awaits his family, as he is a critic and opponent of Ramzan Kadyrov’s regime and the war in Ukraine.
Bataeva’s lawyer told the state secretariat about the situation with human rights in Russia and Chechnya. Administrative and criminal cases against anti-war activists were cited as examples. These arguments did not convince officials.
In July, Bataev held a hunger strike in the deportation center, accusing officials of violating his rights. The decision to deport him to Chechnya will be challenged. The material does not say about the fate of his wife.
