The accusation requires a life sentence for the attacker at the school in Kazan

During the hearing in the Supreme Court of Tatarstan, the prosecutor’s office requested a life sentence for Ilnaz Galyaviev, who staged a shooting at gymnasium No. 175 in Kazan in May 2021. Then nine people died.

As reported in the Telegram channel of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Russia, the prosecution requests that Galyaviev serve the first five years of his sentence in prison, and the following in a high-security colony.

On the morning of May 11, 19-year-old Ilnaz Halyaviev, a former student of Kazan Gymnasium No. 175, armed with a legally purchased hunting rifle, entered the school building and opened fire. Nine people died – seven students and two teachers, more than thirty people were injured. Galyayev surrendered to the police. At the first interrogation, he stated that some time ago he realized that he was God and “began to hate everyone.” In July, according to the results of the first psychological and psychiatric examination, Galyaviev was declared insane at the time of the crime. However, in November, after a re-examination, he was declared sane. After that, Galyayev signed a waiver from the lawyers hired for him. Lawyers assumed that he could take such a decision “not quite voluntarily.”

In December 2021, Galyaviev was charged with murder and attempted murder of two or more persons, including minors, committed in a dangerous manner, with the manufacture and storage of explosives, as well as with property damage. More than 600 people are victims of this case.

The Investigative Committee then announced that Galyayev fully admitted his guilt and repented. According to the investigation, the reason for his concession was “a desire to imitate the actions of informal representatives of one of the destructive subcultures, information about which he obtained from the Internet, copied their behavior during the attack.”
