The activist convicted in the case of “fakes” received the Nemtsov Prize

Barnaul journalist and activist Maria Ponomarenko, who was convicted in the case of the so-called fakes about the army and is in prison, became the laureate of the annual Boris Nemtsov award “for courage in defending democratic rights and freedoms”, Mediazona reported.
In addition to Ponomarenko, the Nemtsov Prize was awarded to Nikita Tushkanov from Koma, Mikhail Simonov from Voronezh, Maksym Lypkan from Moscow and Vladimir Rumyantsev from Vologda. All of them were prosecuted for their anti-war stance, reports Sibir.Realii.
Nikita Tushkanov, a history teacher from Koma, was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison in the case of justifying terrorism, Mikhail Simonov, a pensioner from Moscow, was sentenced to seven years in prison in the case of “fakes”, 18-year-old Muscovite Maksym Lypkan was arrested on charges of forging about of the army, due to an interview with Radio Liberty, Vladimir Rumyantsev, a stoker from Vologda, was sentenced to three years in prison for creating an anti-war radio station.
“If you can express in one word what unites these people, then it is “conscience”. And the second word, of course, is “courage”, – quotes the words of Borys Nemtsov’s daughter, Zhanna Nemtsova, in “Mediazona”.
- In February, the Leninsky district court of Barnaul sentenced Ponomarenko to six years in prison in a criminal case of “fakes” about the Russian army for publishing in a telegram about the bombing of a drama theater in Mariupol, where civilians were sheltering. My activist is in the IK-22 colony in Krasnoyarsk, where, according to her, she is not provided with medical care – Ponomarenko complains of back pain.
- Since 2016, the Boris Nemtsov Foundation has been awarding the prize of the same name. Since its establishment, its laureates have been citizens of Russia – politicians and civil activists – who faced persecution from the authorities. Last year, the award was presented to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, for the fight against Russian military aggression.
