In Brussels on Tuesday morning, during a police operation, 45-year-old Abdesalem Lassued, a suspect in the terrorist attack that killed two people the day before, was killed.

According to the news site HLN (Het Laatste Nieuws), he was shot dead by the police while being detained in a cafe in the Scharbek district. It is reported that the weapon used in the attack on Monday, October 16 was found with him. Radio Liberty geolocated the place where the shooter was caught – it is located 2 kilometers from the place where he killed two citizens of Sweden.

Lassued is a Tunisian who lived in Belgium illegally. He was known to the police and suspected of smuggling people, reports HLN.

The Belgian prosecutor’s office reported the incident, but said that it could not yet confirm whether the man killed by the police was the perpetrator of yesterday’s terrorist attack, the BBC reports.

Yesterday evening in Brussels, an unknown person opened fire on the street five kilometers from the stadium, where the match between the football teams of Belgium and Sweden was held. Two people died. Both of those killed were wearing T-shirts in the national colors of Sweden. Presumably, they were fans of the Swedish team. The shooter escaped on a scooter.

The Walloon newspaper Sudinfo writes that the attacker shared a video message on Facebook. In it, he claims to be a member of the terrorist group “Islamic State” and brags about killing infidels. He says that he shot two people to “take revenge on Muslims” who die for their religion. The person who recorded the video also called himself Slyem Slouma.

In connection with the murder, the Belgian authorities raised the terrorist threat level in the country to the maximum.
