The armed forces of Ukraine destroyed a railway bridge built by the occupiers near Mariupol across the Kalmius River, which was supposed to be part of the overland railway route from Russia to Crimea.

About this reported Petro Andryushchenko, adviser to the Ukrainian mayor of Mariupol.

In particular, the structure of the bridge located in the village of Granitne under occupied Mariupol was destroyed. Fuel tanks and engineering vehicles also burned.

Andryushchenko reminded that the bridge was part of the Russian railway, which was supposed to connect Mariupol and Dzhankoy with Rostov-on-Don and Taganrog. It was about “inserting” into the Donetsk branch Mariupol – Aslanove – Kalchyk – Volnovakha.

The new route would make it possible to solve the issue of military and civilian logistics, as well as reduce dependence on the Crimean Bridge.

“Now the issue of launching a direct railway from Russia has been closed for a long time,” Andryushchenko said.

He added that the Russian military tried to shoot down the rockets with air defense means, but without success, while the Armed Forces of Ukraine took advantage of the moment and were able to establish the location of the recently deployed anti-aircraft missile systems in the Mariupol area.

We remind you:

In 2023, the Russians announced plans to build a railway in the occupied territories that would run along the Sea of Azov.

The new route would make it possible to decongest the Crimean Bridge and make the route from Rostov Oblast to Crimea shorter by 200 kilometers.
