The author of the Kirov anthem was again sentenced in absentia for posts about the war

The court in Kirov, after re-examining the case, sentenced the composer Prokhor Protasov in absentia to five years in a general regime colony because of his anti-war posts. He was found guilty of spreading obviously false information about the actions of the Russian armed forces in Ukraine based on political hatred. This is reported by “Network Freedoms”.
He was also banned from administering sites on the Internet for 3 years. The day before, the prosecutor requested that Protasov be sentenced to 9 years in prison.
At the end of February, the court already sentenced Protasov to five years of imprisonment in absentia. However, in April, the Kirovsky Regional Court overturned the sentence and recognized the existence of significant violations of the law when it was handed down. The criminal case was sent for a new review.
The musician was accused of spreading so-called fakes about the Russian army due to his VKontakte posts about the Russian missile attack on the shopping center in Kremenchug, which killed more than 20 people, and the mass murder of civilians in Buch. Protasov wrote that the reason for the criminal case was the videos and photos posted by him of “Meduza”, “Nastoyaschech vremy” and blogger and politician Maksym Kats.
In August of last year, Protasov’s VKontakte page was blocked at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, and a month later, the police came to search his home. Soon, the Ministry of Internal Affairs declared him a federal wanted man.
Prokhor Protasov is the author of the anthem of the city of Kirov, former conductor of the Vyatka Philharmonic. Since 2021, he lives and studies in Canada. The musician does not plan to return to Russia in the near future.
The Russian authorities consider the publication of any information about the war in Ukraine that differs from the version of the Ministry of Defense of Russia to be fake.
