Employees of the veterinary department of Buryatia euthanized 18 dogs in the “Ananda” shelter in Ulan-Udyna. This was reported by “Mediazona” with reference to the director of the shelter Vyacheslav Sambuev.
According to him, officials came to the shelter without warning. Sambuev noted that all dead animals “were either sick or exhausted” and de jure were considered municipal property. In total, there are about two thousand dogs in the shelter.
At the same time, the director of the shelter noted that the euthanasia of animals was stopped after it was possible to find owners for all the remaining dogs. “The registration process will take about a week, maybe ten days. They should not be put to sleep during this time,” said Sambuev.
Evgenia, the founder of the “Happiness Dog” foundation, told the publication that the dogs killed in “Ananda” were undergoing treatment, some of them had already recovered.
- In November of last year, Buryatia passed a law that allows killing homeless animals a month after entering a shelter, if they have not been found an owner. If the animal has a chip or token indicating the presence of the owner, but they cannot find him or he refuses to pick up the pet, he can be euthanized after two months.
