The editorial office of the Ministry of Finance has determined the winner of the competition for the best review of the work of banks in January. They became a client of A-Bank under the name Elena8888888, who told how she had to completely close the loan, although the house built with this money was destroyed by the war. The author of the review writes that a year and a half ago she took out a loan from A-Bank to build a house. The house was built in the village of Makarov, Kyiv region, but they were not happy with it for a long time: a few months later, the war began, the enemy completely destroyed the house.

The woman applied to A-Bank with the hope that the financial institution would treat her situation with understanding and make concessions on the payment of the loan.

“We wrote to A-Bank that they say yes, there is no home, there is nothing that pays % for the loan, but we do not refuse to pay the loan, we ask that they do not charge us % for the use of the loan or at least reduce it so that we can pay it off on our own body of the loan,” says Elena8888888.

In response, the bank employees requested documents confirming that the house was not really there, promised to study them in detail and enter into the situation.

According to the consumer, all copies of the relevant documents – from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the police, from “Diya”, from the village council – were sent to the bank. The bank was quick to make a decision.

“After a couple of hours, the young lady called back and said that, unfortunately, the bank will charge % for using the loan and will not even be able to reduce it, since the money was taken for the construction of the house, and not for the house itself. Absurd, of course. As an exception, we were offered not to make the minimum payment, but % per month at the full rate will still be charged. That is, the sooner we close the loan, the less we owe the bank,” writes the author of the review.

As a result, the story with the loan for Elena8888888, as she reported, ended with the fact that she had to sell the car and repay the loan and interest accrued for 9 months of war.

What did the bank say?

The press service of A-Bank noted that the bank has established procedures for reviewing client debt and providing more favorable conditions for repayment of overdue debt that arose due to the aggression of the Russian Federation.

“The bank meets all clients, including in the provision of restructuring. All non-standard requests are considered and resolved individually, adapting to the capabilities of the client first, and then the bank,” A-Bank assured.

As for the case described in Elena8888888’s review, the press service of the financial institution explained that they could not help solve the client’s problem due to a lack of information.

“Unfortunately, in the received feedback about the bank’s work, there is no information about the client’s data for the possibility of reviewing the history of the application and reasons for refusal. According to our request in private messages, the user Elena8888888 did not provide personal data, and no response was received to the repeated request from 02.06.2023. On the page of the Ministry of Finance, you can see that the user was last on the site on February 6, 2023, but the bank did not send a response,” bank employees emphasized in a comment to the Ministry of Finance.

The financial institution also reported that the bank had taken other steps to clarify all the circumstances and get a complete picture of the case.

“In order to find a client, we initiated a review of client requests from 02/24/2022 to 01/31/2023 for debt repayment, credit holidays/restructuring, but we could not find situations similar to the one described in the review. In addition, the bank reviewed all clients registered at the address specified in the review — Kievskaya oblast, pgt. Makarov, however, among 363 such clients of the bank, there are no clients with a similar appeal to the bank,” the comment says.

A-Bank assures that they are ready to understand the client’s situation and review the terms of debt repayment. For this, the client is asked to contact the bank.
