The Ministry of Economy and the Buffett Foundation agreed on cooperation in the field of humanitarian demining of land, in particular, regarding the purchase of a demining machine.
About this reported the press service of the Ministry of Economy based on the results of the meeting between First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyridenko and billionaire Howard Buffett.
The ministry announced that it had agreed on the participation of Howard Buffett’s team in a long-term humanitarian land demining project.
“The Buffett Foundation has experience in this, because it has been running similar projects in Colombia for many years. He also promised that he would systematically help Ukrainian agribusiness to get rid of the consequences of Russian aggression,” Svyridenko said.
As part of the cooperation, Buffett promised to purchase demining machines, as well as to use special demining drones in this process. According to Svyridenko, the government is currently developing a methodology and scaling up the use of drones in order to carry out demining more quickly.
In addition, she said, Buffett will “use his contacts and opportunities” to invite investors to humanitarian demining in Ukraine.

We remind you:
In June last year, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi met with businessman and philanthropist Howard Buffett and invited him to a number of projects for the restoration of Ukraine, in particular – restoration of irrigation systems in Odesa, support for refugees, demining and reform of school meals.
Ukraine for humanitarian demining needs 37.4 billion dollars, of which more than 397 million dollars – this year alone.
As a result of hostilities, more than 5 million hectares, or 50 thousand km2, of agricultural land are currently unsuitable for use due to mining, contamination by explosive residues or ongoing hostilities.
Previously, the govt approved the action plan from demining agricultural land for sowing and identified priority regions for this. First of all, efforts will be directed to lightly polluted lands with perennial plantations, or planned for planting vegetable and melon crops.
