The case of the “financing of extremism” of the member of the RAS Abramov has entered the court

The Pereslav district court of the Yaroslavl region received a criminal case against Sergei Abramov, a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The investigation into him, which was conducted by the FSB, has been completed. The scientist is accused of financing extremist activities. He himself denies the guilt.
67-year-old Sergey Abramov is a leading Russian specialist in the field of supercomputers, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences. For almost 19 years, he headed the A. K. Aylamazyan Institute of Software Systems. He came to the attention of law enforcement agencies last spring. According to the investigation, Abramov transferred money several times in support of Alexei Navalny’s anti-corruption fund – a total of seven thousand rubles. The mathematician himself repeatedly stated that the translations were made without his knowledge.
On April 10, 2023, the scientist was searched, after which he spent more than a day in a pre-trial detention center and was then placed under house arrest. From April 12, 2023, Abramov was included in the list of extremists and terrorists of Rosfinmonitoring. Accordingly, all his personal accounts and the accounts of all legal entities connected with him were blocked – these are four companies engaged in, among other things, supercomputer technologies. On November 30, the court granted the request of the FSB to place Abramov in a psychiatric hospital for examination. There he was recognized as sane.
According to the article on the financing of extremism, the scientist may face up to eight years in prison.
- According to the scientific publication “T-invariant”, Abramov is one of the many involved in the “extremist case of the FBK”, in which there are already 53 accused and convicted. Among them are many random people – for example, those who sent a donation of several hundred rubles or left an inscription in the snow. One of the last sentences in this case was handed down on April 4: a court in the Moscow region sentenced programmer Alexey Malyarevsky to seven years in prison for donating 150 dollars to RBC.
