During the appeal, the Moscow City Court returned the case of Pavlo Krysevych about shares in the Kremlin to the prosecutor’s office for investigation. Krysevych will remain in pre-trial detention center for at least two more months. Sever.Realii reports this from the courtroom.
The prosecution insisted on returning the case. The prosecutor stated that the “ideological motive of the crime” was not taken into account when passing the sentence.
In October 2022, a court in Moscow sentenced Krysevych to five years in prison on the charge of hooliganism with the use of weapons. During his action on Red Square in June 2021, Krysevych read a manifesto against repression, twice “shot” an unloaded pistol into the air, and then shot himself in the head, imitating suicide.
According to the arguments of the defense, the alleged activist article already implies the presence of an ideological motive. Krysevych and his lawyer asked the court to cancel the sentence or reduce the term to the one already served, as well as to take into account a partial admission of guilt.
- Pavel Krysevych is an activist from St. Petersburg who held artistic actions in defense of political prisoners and against repression. The most famous was the ego action at the FSB building in November 2020. Then he put himself on the cross in the image of Jesus on Lubyanskaya Square in Moscow, and folders symbolizing criminal cases were burning at his feet.
