The charge of treason against the actor Kanakhin was approved

The Moscow Prosecutor’s Office approved the indictment in the case of treason against the Russian actor Kirill Kanakhin. The accusation calls him a supporter of right-wing radical views based on Russophobia and the idea of Ukrainian nationalism.
According to the investigation, in August 2022, Kanakhin joined the “Russian Volunteer Corps” – a formation fighting against Russia on the side of Ukraine. From January to March last year, Kanakhin allegedly participated in battles against the Russian army in the Kherson region.
The prosecutor’s office notes that on March 2 of last year, the former actor as part of the group crossed the Russian border in the Bryansk region, participated in battles there against Russian military personnel and committed a terrorist attack against civilians.
The second time, according to the Russian department, Kanakhin crossed the border in the Belgorod region and participated in battles against the Russian army.
- In March 2023, Kanakhin, who starred in the TV series “Gluhar” and “Uchastkovy”, was placed on the federal wanted list in Russia, and in April he was arrested in absentia. He faces a life sentence.
- In November 2023, the commander of the “Russian Volunteer Corps” Denis Kapustin received such punishment in absentia. The military court found him guilty of treason, attempted terrorist attack, teaching terrorist activities, creating a terrorist community, and acquiring explosives.
- Both Kanakhin and Kapustin are included in the list of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring.
- “Russian Volunteer Corps” is an armed formation fighting on the side of Ukraine, but consisting, as it is claimed, exclusively of Russian citizens. According to the statements of the fighters, their goal is “the liberation of their land from Putin’s regime.” In Russia, the corps is recognized as a terrorist organization.
