The Chechen Parliament awarded Ramzan Kadyrov the title of “Father of the Nation”

The Parliament of Chechnya unanimously approved amendments to the republican Constitution, according to which, in particular, the position of the head of the region is established in the Chechen language – “Mehk-Da”. Kavkaz.Realii edition notes that it is literally “father of the land”, but it is used in the sense of “father of the people”.

Amendments to the Constitution of Chechnya were proposed by the head of the local parliament Magomed Daudov. After one of them, which gave Kadyrov the title of “father of the people”, drew the attention of the media, State Duma deputy from Chechnya Adam Delymkhanov said that “Mehk-Da” is translated from Chechen to Russian as “the highest official of the republic”. “The concept of “Mehk-Da” fully conveys the role of the Head of Chechnya as a defender of religion, people, personal interests, culture, history, traditions and customs!” Delymkhanov wrote in the Telegram channel.

• Ramzan Kadyrov has been the head of Chechnya since 2007. Human rights activists have repeatedly accused him of human rights violations, as well as the kidnapping and murder of his critics. The EU, the USA and a number of other countries imposed sanctions against the head of Chechnya.
• After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Kadyrov became one of the main propagandists of the war. The head of Chechnya regularly reports on the sending of mercenaries to the front, and also threatens reprisals against senior officials of Ukraine.
