The court in Sochi sent the suspect in the so-called repeated discrediting of the Russian army to an investigative detention center. We are talking about Maryna Melikhova. She was related to the “Grazhdane SSSR” organization banned in Russia, reports Kavkaz.Realii.
The press service of the Kuban courts notes that in October of last year, the suspect was already brought to administrative responsibility for discrediting the armed forces.
As “Kommersant” writes, the court took into account Melikhova’s previous criminal record when choosing a measure of restraint. In 2021, Melikhova received three and a half years in a penal colony for public incitement to extremist activity.
In addition, the court decided that Melikhova, being an active user of social networks and being at large, could spread false information about his case.
According to the criminal article on discrediting the army, Melikhova may face up to five years in prison. The activist connects the criminal prosecution with her pacifist and human rights activities, she informed the correspondent of Kavkaz.Realii about this before her arrest.
- The movement “Citizens of the USSR” unites people who believe that they live in the temporarily occupied territory of the Soviet Union. They call the current Russian government illegitimate, and themselves the legal successors of the USSR.
- According to human rights activists, almost 600 criminal anti-war cases have been initiated in Russia since the beginning of the war against Ukraine. According to the criminal article, 80 people are being prosecuted for discrediting.
