A court in Moscow arrested the accounts of Erika Chhartishvili – the wife of the writer Boris Akunin – for six million rubles.

In Russia, cases have been opened against Akunin on the articles on the justification of terrorism and on the spread of fakes about the Russian army. In January, he was declared a federal wanted man, and in early February he was arrested in absentia.

Criminal cases against Akunin’s wife were not reported. According to the investigation, the money in the personal accounts of Erika Chkhartishvila is considered “joint income of the spouses” and could be used to commit crimes.

After the initiation of criminal cases against Akunin, searches were conducted at the Zakharov publishing house, which publishes the writer’s books. Publishing house AST and the chain of stores “Chitay-horod – Bukvoed” have suspended the distribution of his works. Akunin’s name was removed from the posters of performances based on his plays. Some theaters also canceled their shows.

Since 2014, Boris Akunin has been living in London. He repeatedly criticized the policy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, condemned the annexation of Crimea and the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
