Russian military courts received 4,121 criminal cases about the involuntary abandonment of a unit after the start of mobilization. This was reported by “Mediazona”, which collected data from the websites of military courts.
Decisions have already been made in 3,470 cases. According to the publication, military courts have been handing down 100 sentences a week in such cases since June. Most cases of involuntary desertion end with a suspended sentence – such a sentence allows the soldier to return to the front.
Also, by November, the courts received 317 cases of failure to comply with the order. Almost all cases under this article were initiated in the Kaliningrad and Rostov regions, as well as in the Primorsky Krai and Kamchatka Krai.
According to the more serious article on desertion, the courts received 96 cases initiated after the mobilization began.
- Earlier, Sibir.Realii conducted a similar study, from which it was found that the most severe sentence for a serviceman in Russia – Dmitriy Naryshkin, who was mobilized from the Sakhalin region – was 12 years in prison for repeatedly leaving his place of service.
