The number of people poisoned by the surrogate alcoholic drink “Mr. Cider” has grown to 106 people. 36 of them died, including a child. This was reported by the Minister of Health of Russia, Mikhail Murashko.

According to Murashko, 19 victims remain in hospitals. In early June, residents of several regions of Russia were poisoned by the drink, most of all in the Ulyanovsk Region. Rospotrebnadzor ordered the withdrawal of “Mister Sidr” from circulation.

The drink was produced by the Samara company “Andy”. Alcohol was sold without documents confirming its origin, quality and safety, the Ulyanovsk department of Rospotrebnadzor reported. The founder of the company, 32-year-old Anar Huseynov, was arrested for two months. During interrogation, he called the mass poisoning of Russians an “unfortunate accident.”

Experts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs discovered in the composition of “Mister Cider” impurities of methanol and ethyl butyrate in proportions that pose a threat to human health. During the investigation, the police established that the alcohol-containing liquid was stolen from the warehouse of the Samara Ministry of Internal Affairs. Two Samara residents suspected of embezzlement and a police sergeant guarding the warehouse were detained.
