On Tuesday, the European Commission is expected to present the negotiating framework for Ukraine’s accession to the EU, but its approval may take several more months.

This is reported by Politico, writes “European Truth”.

On Tuesday, the European Commission should propose the so-called negotiating framework for Ukraine and Moldova – documents that define the general principles of future accession negotiations. After that, they should be discussed and agreed by the member states.

“European diplomats and officials warn that the agreement of all 27 European capitals, which is necessary for the formal start of negotiations, is unlikely to be possible before the European elections in June,” Politico notes.

Among other things, a factor is the desire of some countries that Ukraine and Moldova do not overtake Bosnia and Herzegovina on the way to the EU.

According to the publication’s sources, on Tuesday the European Commission will give a positive recommendation on the start of accession negotiations with BiH, and next week at a meeting in Brussels, EU leaders will discuss this recommendation.

The European Commission should also present a document on the preparation of the EU for future enlargement. At first it was expected at the end of February, but now, according to Politico, the presentation has been postponed until March 20.

We will remind, the European Commission in January started work on the project of the negotiation framework for Ukraine – a document that defines the principles and procedures of negotiations on accession to the EU.

At the end of last week, the Vice President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, during a visit to Kyiv, confirmed that next week the EC will prepare draft negotiation frameworkswhich will be recommended to the member states for approval after Ukraine fulfills all requirements.

On Monday, the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine reported that Kyiv completed the implementation of all EC recommendations, necessary for the decision on the negotiating framework.
