The European Union has trained more than 27,000 servicemen for the Ukrainian army. This was reported by the head of the EU foreign policy department, Josep Borrell, in a video address to the participants of the Defense Industry Forum in Kyiv.

As noted by the Russian service of the BBC, in mid-September the countries of the European Union decided to increase the number of Ukrainian soldiers who will undergo training in European centers. By 2024, it is planned to train up to 40,000 soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

On Saturday, Josep Borrell arrived in Odessa with an unannounced visit. He recorded the video appeal against the backdrop of the Savior and Transfiguration Cathedral in Odessa, which was heavily damaged as a result of a Russian missile strike on July 23.

“Odessa is a beautiful historical city. It should be in the headlines because of its bright culture and spirit. Instead, it appears in the news as a frequent target of Putin’s war. The EU supports the stabilization of objects that suffered from barbaric destruction by Russia,” – said in fastpublished on behalf of Borrell in the X social network (formerly Twitter).

Josep Borrell promised that Europe will not leave Ukraine in its struggle for the return of the territories seized by Russia, and emphasized that further military, economic and political support of Kyiv is needed. The head of European diplomacy once again criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin for Moscow’s withdrawal from the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain from the Black Sea ports supported by the UN and Turkey. After Moscow abandoned the deal in July, citing non-fulfillment of its conditions, almost daily shelling of Ukrainian port cities by the Russian army began.
