The European Commission will introduce a ban on the export of grain and oil crops from Ukraine to Romania, which will last until June 5 of this year. This was reported by the Minister of Agriculture of Romania, Petr Daea, Sky News reports.

“Negotiations with the states are still ongoing. Romania will be protected by the decision of the European Commission and will receive compensation for farmers,” Daea said.

Let’s remind

Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Bulgaria have banned the import of a number of agricultural products from Ukraine to protect their farmers.

Since after the beginning of the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, access to the Black Sea ports was blocked and then restricted, so it was necessary to look for alternative routes for the delivery of grain and other goods through neighboring states.

Therefore, millions of tons of oil and grain crops ended up in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. These products are cheaper than in the European Union, and they are also duty-free.

The European Commission made concessions to countries whose farmers suffered from surplus agricultural goods from Ukraine, agreeing to ban the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed, sunflower seeds and sunflower oil by the frontline countries, and also allocated an additional 100 million euros to cover the losses of farmers.
