First flights
The first SkyUp MT flights were made from Munich to Hurghada and back. The customer of the flights was the new Estonian start-up Marabu, which specializes in tourist routes from German cities to seaside resorts.
SkyUp MT works under wet leasing conditions. This type of lease assumes that the airline provides the aircraft together with the crews and insurance, while the customer of the flights pays a fixed price that does not depend on the load of the flights.
Currently, the SkyUp MT fleet includes one Boeing 737−800 aircraft with a configuration of 189 seats, which came from the Ukrainian SkyUp fleet. Ukrainian crews who have undergone training and received European certificates work in the Maltese division, the airline reported.
SkyUp decided to create a European subsidiary in 2022 after the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. Having a European certificate will allow SkyUp MT to take advantage of Europe’s open skies — to fly without restrictions on European routes.
Also, the European division will be able to raise the prices for its services. Previously, SkyUp was forced to make a discount due to additional bureaucracy, since it was an operator from a third country for the European Union. Dmytro Seroukhov, the general director of the low-cost airline, told about this earlier.
Let’s remind
The Ministry of Finance wrote that the Ukrainian low-cost carrier SkyUp received the necessary certificates and licenses for flights to the EU and registered its office in Malta.
