The court in Kostroma sentenced the former coordinator of Navalny’s local headquarters, Aleksandr Zykov, to five years in prison in absentia under the article about fakes about the Russian army. This is reported by “Network Freedoms”.

The deadline was set for six posts on Zykov’s VKontakte page about the murders of civilians in Sumy and Buch, anti-war rallies in Amsterdam and The Hague. One of them mentioned the detonation of the CHP plant, in the other Zykov commented on his own criminal case.

The prosecutor’s office asked for nine years of imprisonment for him. Zykov did not admit guilt. The activist is not in Russia. He wrote on Facebook that he “plans to continue his criminal activities in full.”

  • After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian authorities started persecution for anti-war speeches and statements.
  • According to OVD-Info estimates, at least 603 people have been prosecuted for their anti-war stance, 175 of them are accused of fake news about the Russian army. Russian courts recognize reports about the war in Ukraine that do not coincide with the version of the Ministry of Defense of Russia as fakes.
