The first cogeneration plant in Ukraine, purchased with the funds of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as part of the energy security project, was installed in the city of Starokostyantynov, Khmelnytskyi region.

This is stated in messages USAID.

“Contrary to Russia’s attempts to destroy Ukraine’s energy system, USAID is actively working to strengthen the stability of the country’s energy infrastructure by implementing modern, effective technological solutions,” the message says.

In total, USAID will purchase 91 cogeneration plants for 32 cities of Ukraine and two universities.

The installation and connection to the networks of the first cogeneration plant, purchased at the expense of USAID through the Energy Security Project, was carried out in the city of Starokostyantiniv, Khmelnytskyi region.

Equipped with a gas-piston engine, the unit generates both thermal and electrical energy to meet the needs of the city’s boiler houses in electricity supply, and thus ensures an uninterrupted supply of heat to critical and social infrastructure facilities located nearby, as well as to residents of multi-apartment buildings.

This equipment with a total capacity of 56.5 MW, integrated into district heating systems, will provide power to local critical infrastructure, such as boiler houses, heat points, pump stations of water supply and drainage systems.

Small and medium power cogeneration units, which USAID purchases and transfers to local communities, will allow local heat supply enterprises to generate electricity for their own needs or for sale to the power grid not only during the ongoing war, but also after it ends.

Mini-CHP will provide stable heat supply to more than 1 million residents and about 1,000 social facilities.

We remind you:

The Ministry of Community Development of Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine together with USAID (Energy Security Project) implements the program of deployment of small and medium capacity cogeneration in Ukraine.

The project also provides assistance in legal reforms aimed at technical optimization, energy efficiency and environmental sustainability of local district heating systems.
