The former prime minister of Pakistan was released on bail for two weeks

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan was released on bail for two weeks. The day before, the Supreme Court declared his arrest illegal.

According to the decision of the board of judges, Imran Khan was released on bail until May 26. The court also prohibited arresting him in any case registered from May 9 to 17.

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Chairman of the opposition party “Movement for Justice” Imran Khan was arrested on May 9. Inspector General of Police Akbar Nasir reported that Khan was arrested in the case of receiving multi-million dollar bribes from a construction company. It is reported that the former head of government had previously refused to appear voluntarily, which led to his arrest.

After the arrest of Khan, mass protests began in the country. His supporters stormed military establishments, set fire to the building of the state television and radio company, smashed buses, and ransacked the house of a high-ranking army official. The army was brought in to suppress the protests, almost two thousand people were detained.

Imran Khan and his supporters deny the charges of corruption and call them politically motivated. After his removal from office in April 2022, more than 50 criminal cases were instituted against the former head of government, including corruption and terrorism.
