Russian billionaires have increased their fortunes by $152 billion over the past year, thanks to high natural resource prices and a recovery from huge losses they suffered immediately after the war in Ukraine
This is reported by the Russian edition of Forbes Reuters.
According to the publication, there are 110 official billionaires on the list, which is 22 more than last year, and their total wealth has increased to $505 billion from $353 billion in 2022.
Leading the rating is Andrei Melnychenko, who made a fortune from fertilizers, entered the list of the richest people in Russia, according to the magazine, with an estimated fortune of $25.2 billion, which is more than double last year’s estimate of his value.
Second on the list is Volodymyr Potanin, president and largest shareholder of Nornickel, the world’s largest producer of palladium and refined nickel. His fortune is estimated at 23.7 billion dollars.
Volodymyr Lisin, who controls the NLMK steel company and was recognized as the richest man in Russia last year, took third place with a fortune of $22.1 billion.
The list would be longer if five billionaires – DST Global founder Yuriy Milner, Revolut founder Mykola Storonsky, Freedom Finance founder Timur Turlov and JetBrains co-founders Sergey Dmitriev and Valentin Kipyatkov – had not renounced their Russian citizenship.
Economic truth.
