The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) reported on the detention of a 35-year-old resident of Nalchik on suspicion of intending to leave for Ukraine and take part in the war on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. A criminal case has been opened against him under the article on preparation for treason. This is reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the department.
According to the FSB, the resident of Nalchik planned to join the ranks of one of the armed formations fighting on the side of Ukraine. On the instructions of a representative of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he allegedly bought painkillers and psychotropic drugs, and then tried to enter the territory of Ukraine through Belarus.
The mass media published a video recording made by the special service. On it, the detainee says to the camera that he “followed all kinds of propaganda”, called on Russian citizens not to repeat his mistakes and thanked the FSB for saving his life.
- Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the FSB has been reporting on the detention of Russians who were allegedly planning to fight on the side of Ukraine or committed sabotage at the behest of Ukrainian special services. Dozens of criminal cases were opened. Some of them have already been sentenced.
- In January, the Bryansk regional court sentenced 29-year-old local resident Ilya Kutsev to seven years of imprisonment in a high-security colony. According to the verdict, Kutsev was going to leave Russia for Ukraine to fight there on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Kutsev himself did not admit guilt. Earlier, Krasnoyarsk resident Sergey Ulukshonov was sentenced to 4 years and 8 months, and Volgograd resident Maksym Dmytryenko was sentenced to four years in prison.
