The Russian Government Legislative Commission approved the idea of confiscating the property of those convicted under articles of the Criminal Code about so-called fakes about the Russian army and public calls for desertion, if these actions were committed “for selfish motives.”
RTVI reports that the draft law was developed by deputies of the State Duma from United Russia, co-authors of many repressive laws, Vasyl Piskarev, Iryna Yarova, and Elena Yampolskaya. According to the document prepared by them, articles of the Criminal Code on fakes and calls for desertion will be included in the list of crimes for which confiscation is provided.
It is noted that the draft law has not yet been submitted to the State Duma for approval by deputies. This is planned to be done in the near future.
Earlier, the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, said that since the article on fakes about the Russian army appeared in the criminal code, the department had initiated 273 relevant criminal cases. Another 81 criminal cases were initiated under the article on the so-called discrediting of the actions of the Russian armed forces.
At the same time, the courts recognize any information about the war in Ukraine that contradicts the Kremlin’s official position as fakes and discrediting. At least half of the verdicts in cases of fakes about the army were handed down by the courts because of statements about the killing of Ukrainian civilians by the Russian military, “Vyorstka” previously calculated.
