The Government of Russia has conceptually approved the zeroing of duties on imported chicken eggs, the newspaper “Izvestia” reports with reference to a source who participates in the meetings of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture. This information was confirmed in the office of First Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Belousov.
According to the publication’s source, the Russian authorities want to create a sufficient supply of eggs on the domestic market to bring down prices. According to Rosstat, in November eggs traveled by 15.1 percent, since the beginning of the year – by 35.5 percent, in annual terms – by 40.3 percent. According to RBC experts, the growth is due to the excess of demand over supply.
The Ministry of Economic Development told “Izvestia” that the cancellation of the duty will be effective from January 1 to June 30, 2024. At the moment, the duty is 15 percent of the production cost. The Ministry of Agriculture told the publication about the beginning of negotiations with the so-called friendly countries about increasing the supply of eggs. The department expects that these measures will stabilize price dynamics.
As “Izvestia” notes, in some regions, retail chains have begun to sell eggs individually.
