The court in Rostov-on-Don arrested the head of the armored service of the Southern Military District on charges of protecting tank engines. Colonel Alexander Denisov faces up to 10 years in prison.
According to the investigation, Denisov and other persons, whose names are still unknown, stole engines for T-90 tanks from November 2021 to April 2022. In total, they managed to steal seven pieces. The total value of the stolen engines is about 20.5 million rubles.
Colonel’s lawyer Roman Budarin said in a conversation with Kommersant newspaper that his client denies the charges. “There is no evidence of Denisov’s guilt,” the defense attorney claims.
In 2019, three former officers of the armored service were convicted of a similar crime. They were found guilty of attempted theft of four KamAZ engines.
- In March, the mass media reported that the Russian army was forced to use old weapons due to high losses of armored vehicles.
- Investigators from the Conflict Intelligence Team reported that a railway train with T-54 tanks removed from conservation, the development of which began before the end of the Second World War, went from the Far East to the west of Russia. According to the authors of the investigation, the redeployment of old armored vehicles to the war with Ukraine may indicate serious problems with provisioning in the Russian army.
