The latest technologies from Ukrainian developers to protect the sky

As we can see, there is no single solution to the problem, and none of the proposed options can become a “game changer” of air warfare. If it is difficult to quickly increase the number of air defenses, then at least you can squeeze the most out of each solution mentioned.

First of all, air defense assets must be deployed in the right place at the right time. To solve this task, a special software was created that analyzes the paths of the “shaheed” every night, allows you to determine patterns and effectively deploy air defense equipment.

But in order to collect such data, and even more so to react to them in real time, you need to see these “shaheds”. Timely detection of targets and tracking the movement of enemy drones throughout their journey is vital, because they increasingly change direction and try to confuse the defenders of the Ukrainian sky.

As you know, radars are very expensive equipment, and it is difficult to cover the entire territory of Ukraine with them. At the same time, Ukrainian developers offer a cheaper and mass option – acoustic sensors.

The fact is that “shahedis” are known for their characteristic sound, which is often compared to a moped. Modern sensors are able not only to detect “shahed”, but also to determine the distance, coordinates of the object and quickly transmit this data to the appropriate control point.

The “FENEK” sound-metric acoustic system, the developer of which is the “Octava Defence” company, works according to this principle. This is a network of receivers of acoustic signals (sensors), united into a system by a single software and technical “brain”, which, with the help of complex mathematical calculations, determines the azimuth, height, direction of movement and type of air target. The developers have taught this system to “screen out” unnecessary sounds. For example, it is not a problem for “FENEK” to distinguish an ordinary moped from a “shahed”.
