The mayor of Novokuznetsk, Sergey Kuznetsov, refused a local resident’s request to repair a gym for people with disabilities. The mayor explained the refusal by the fact that “a lot of money goes to help the families of those who were mobilized and died.”

A local resident with a disability left a request for repairs in the comments under the mayor’s post on the VKontakte social network: “Please help the disabled athletes with the hall at 10 Pionerskoy Street.”

Kuznetsov said in response that “the city budget critically lacks funds” to repair the entire gym together. He pointed out that as part of the federal program “Accessible Wednesday” the entrance to the gym, ramp, floors, walls, heating and toilets were repaired in the gym, but it is not possible to repair “everything and everything”.

The resident sent several photos after the renovation – walls with peeling paint and a toilet not suitable for use by people in wheelchairs.

The mayor of the city responded to this photo: “Clean toilet! What’s wrong?” “It’s clean, it’s clean! But I can’t drive into it,” answered the resident of the city.

In response, Kuznetsov said that he could not allocate money for repairs, because “he has nothing to pay even for the current maintenance of social institutions.”

“For two months, we do not pay for water and electricity. A lot of money goes to help the families of the mobilized, the dead. Everything falls on the city budget: paying for house repairs, children’s recreation, food, treatment of wounded soldiers, help with funerals,” wrote Kuznetsov. The mayor said that “we have to live within our means and possibilities.”
