The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, announced that she is leaving Twitter (X), arguing that in recent years this social network has become “a weapon of mass destruction of our democracies.”

Without naming him, Hidalgo pointed to the platform’s owner, Elon Musk, being responsible for the changes he has implemented since taking over the company in October 2022.
“This platform and its owner act deliberately to exacerbate tensions and conflicts,” she declared, adding that the social network had turned into “a huge global sewer.”
According to the mayor of Paris, Twitter (X) is a clear political project that wants to do without democracy and its values in favor of powerful private interests.
“I refuse to support this fateful plan,” Hidalgo concluded, becoming the first prominent French politician to announce that she was leaving the platform.
