The Ministry of Defense of Russia accused the Armed Forces of Ukraine of attempting to attack the patrol ships “Sergei Kotov” and “Vasily Bykov” of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
According to the Ministry of Defense of Russia, the incident occurred in the southwestern part of the Black Sea, 340 kilometers southwest of Sevastopol, when Russian ships “performed tasks to control shipping”, which, in particular, could mean their participation in the blockade of Ukrainian Black Sea ports after Russia’s withdrawal from the so-called grain transaction.
In the message of the Russian Defense Department, it is confirmed that three Ukrainian unmanned boats participated in the attack, which were destroyed by fire from the standard weapons of Russian ships.
On July 25, the Russian military already reported an attack on the patrol ship “Sergei Kotov” with the help of naval drones.
The Armed Forces did not comment on the alleged attack. Ukrainian unmanned boats attacked the Russian military base in Sevastopol in the annexed Crimea several times. In May, the communications ship “Ivan Khurs” was attacked in the Black Sea, and in early June, the reconnaissance ship “Pryazovye” was attacked.
